There are four things that can cause a candle to smoke:

bullet

Cheap wax - Some candles are made with cheap paraffin wax. At Kettle Creek we believe we have developed a finer paraffin to minimize smoking.

bullet

Too much fragrance - Yes, believe it or not, your candle may contain too much fragrance. Wax can only support so much fragrance and the wick can only burn so much wax and scent per hour.

bullet

Wick is too long - This is the most common problem when burning any type of candle. You must trim your wick each and every time you light your candle. Failing to do so will cause your candle to smoke.

bullet

Improper placement - Placing your candle in a drafty location will cause excess smoking.                        Return to top

"Mushrooms" are carbon deposits caused by highly fragrant candles. They usually appear after a long burning cycle. Trim the "mushroom" deposits before lighting the candle. make sure trimmings do not fall into the wax pool. This could become a fire hazard.

Keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/4" at all times and remove trimmings.

To burn your candle evenly. Don't extinguish until top layer is liquefied.                                                         Return to top

When you light your Kettle Creek candle, it is very important to allow the entire top layer of the candle to liquefy. Every time you light your candle you will want to repeat the same process. This will enable your candle to burn evenly and you will also maximize the burning time.
